As a follow-up to the Las Peñas and Sierra Gorda projects carried out in 2016 in Chile, work has begun this month on the construction of the Cabo Leones wind farm.
The wind farm, composed of 115.5 megawatts (MW) is developed in Atacama, in the town of Freirina.
The developer, Ibereólica Renovables (previously known as Grupo Energvechamientos Energéticos) / EDF-EN, was awarded the tender resolved by the Chilean authorities in October 2015.
The wind turbines are supplied by Gamesa, specifically the G114 / 2100 model. The future Cabo Leones I wind farm will comprise 55 turbines and will be connected to the SIC, central network of Chile.
The initiative will provide clean energy from renewable sources. Work is expected to be completed by the end of September this year.
