Transbiaga has received an order to supply lifting services for 47 turbines to the Roggeveld wind farm. The Roggeveld project is a 147MW wind farm to be implement approximately 20km north of Matjiesfontein, in Ward 4 of Laingsburg Local Municipality and Ward 1 of Karoo Hoogland Local Municipality. It straddles Northern Cape and Western Cape.
Nordex will supply AW125/3150 and AW125/3000 turbines, which it says should deliver electricity at a capacity factor of more than 47%.
It expects the wind farm to enter into commercial operation in April 2021 and says it will generate about 613 GWh of electricity yearly.
Local installation work near Laingsburg began in 2019, creating 700 jobs during construction and operation. The towers for the turbines will be produced in South Africa.
